Something Old; Something Borrowed - A "Used" Grown

Second-hand is not second rate

Buying or acquiring a wedding gown that has been worn before is a good way to not only save money but it may have very positive fringe benefits. It may give you the wonderful emotion of wearing a family heirloom. Or, you may accent your individuality by wearing a style that is not the current vogue.

A second hand store or even Ebay may be a possibility for finding a once-worn wedding gown in decent condition. Really, the dresses you'll find were only worn once. The dress may need to be cleaned or freshened. Or, perhaps it needs minor alterations. In any case these could be good places to look for the wedding gown of your dreams at a great discount. And paying for it won't give you nightmares.

Likewise, you may be lucky to be offered a wedding dress from your mom, an aunt, sister, or girl friend in a style and fit that actually works for you. Again, this dress could be yours for just the cost of a cleaning.

If you or a close friend is handy with a sewing machine Consider this: Maybe you can add some beading, ribbon or lace to update the style. Can't you just picture those mice and birds working on Cinderella's ball gown.

And finally consider a twist on the term "used". Look on the internet for vintage wedding dresses or gowns. Perhaps you like something in the vintage mermaid style that tapers to near the knees and then flairs out a little like a mermaid's tail fin. These have been very popular on and off through the decades.

While all the gowns you find in these ways may have been worn once, they will generally be in good condition at a great savings. And you can wear a classic style that fits your tastes and budget.
