Ideas for Choosing Your Wedding Reception Music
The Music for a Wedding Reception
There is no set music for a wedding reception, however there are some favorite numbers, at least for an American wedding, that accompany specific dances. However, the wedding reception music play list is most likely going to be selected by the couple after consultation with their musician(s) or DJ. And the music for the "first dance" is almost always a favorite, meaningful tune to the bride and groom.
While you are likely to play slower, more formal music during the ceremony, the reception is generally a time to kick back and have fun which your music. You may have a slow number like a waltz followed by a quick hip-hop number or a disco number like "Y.M.C.A " by the Village People. A varied repertoire will cover all age groups.
Whether or not you lean any particular way ethnically, you can always add tunes (and dances) from your own background or bring in the American melting pot of music for even more fun. Why not play limbo rock (especially if this is a beach wedding) or do a grapevine dance to the mizerlou, a traditional Greek melody, or do the hora to Hava Negileh.
Country or Bluegrass music complements a barbeque wedding, Surfer music or Reggae works with a beach wedding. And, Classic Rock can be sprinkled in wherever.
