Where Should We have Our Wedding Reception?

Choosing a Wedding Reception Location

Deciding on where to get married is probably one of the first decisions you will make, maybe even before you choose your wedding date. Many reception venues book dates a year or more in advance, especially summer Saturdays, so start scouting early.

If you are not planning a destination wedding, then you are likely going to be looking at various reception halls, estates and resorts within about 2 hours from your home. There are a ton of options and not all of them take a moviestar bank roll.

The rates run the gamat, as well, with the more elaborate venues being most expensive, especially on Saturday nights. Some venues will provide on-site catering while others will allow you to find a separate caterer. This and more will factor into your costs.

Our articles on Outdoor Weddings, Destination Weddings and Hawaiian Wedding Locations will give more suggestions on choosing the perfect location for your wedding.

What Happens at the Wedding Reception?

The Wedding Reception is the party that happens after the bride and groom exchange their vows. Most often the reception is on the same day, within a few hours after the wedding ceremony. Alternatively, the couple may have a simple ceremony with few guests one day, with their reception following after some weeks.

Usually a dinner is served, dancing accompanies lively music, speeches are made by guests and the traditions of cake cutting, the champagne toast and tossing of the garter may take place. Sometimes, the reception location is decorated to a particular theme and wedding guests may engage in games or other activities that promote that theme.
